Rathfarnham Castle
Rathfarnham , Dublin 14Rathfarnham Castle has both a colourful and interesting history. Adam Loftus built the castle in around 1583. It was built as a comfortable defensible residence and by end of the 16th century it was acknowledged as one of the finest castles in County Dublin.
Adam Loftus was an ambitious Yorkshire clergyman, who came to Ireland as chaplain to the Lord Deputy and quickly rose to become Archbishop of Dublin, Lord Chancellor of Ireland and was closely involved in the establishment of Trinity College.
The visitor can see, a first hand glimpses of layers of the Castles 18th century interiors by Sir William Chambers and James 'Athenian' Stewart and earlier existence uncovered during research.
