Garden of Remembrance, Parnell Square

Designed by Daithi Hanly, the Garden of Remembrance was established in 1966 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the 1916 Easter Rising. It is one of the gardens of Ireland that has been created by an Irish president. President Eamon de Valera officially founded the garden. The Garden of Remembrance is dedicated to the Irish people who died during the struggle for Irish independence from the British Crown. It is meant to be a place of quiet tribute and reflection. Many Irish gardens share its crisp, natural appearance, but the atmosphere in this garden of Ireland conveys a certain element of sadness, determination, courage, and remembrance.

The large sculpture by Oisin Kelly is based on the theme of the "Children of Lir". The garden is intended as a place of quiet remembrance and reflection.

The Easter Rising was an attempt by the Irish people to win independence through force. It was organized by the Irish Republican Brotherhood, and the incident lasted from April 24 to April 30, 1916.

Admission is free to this garden of Ireland, and the park is open daily. It is a quiet, lovely garden, full of tribute and history .
