Co-starring Ireland’s top soprano CELINE BYRNE

CARMEN is considered one of the most exciting stories in opera – and one of the most popular!

This new production by The Moscow State Opera with guest soloists premiered in Moscow in December 2012

The Director General and Artistic Director of the Theatre is George Isaakian who was last year awarded ‘The Golden Mask’, Russia’s most prestigious theatrical award, as Russia’s top opera Artistic Director for 2012; the third time he has been granted this honour.

The production is unique in that for the first time ever for an opera it has been produced in cooperation with The Picasso Foundation.

Although a traditional production with traditional costumes and orchestral arrangement, for the first time ever CARMEN will be visualised through Picasso’s masterpieces with set designs featuring some of his early paintings dedicated to Spain and the bullfight.

A further treat for Dublin audiences is that the role of Michaela will be played by Ireland’s leading soprano, Celine Byrne.

An additional Irish dimension will be provided by the 20-piece Junior Musical Theatre School Choir from Bray who will provide one of the most charming scenes of the show.

The performance will be in French with English surtitles.

This will be one of the highlights of the year for both opera fans and newcomers to this great artform.

Over the past 10 years I spend an average of 190 nights per annum in hotels throughout Europe and the USA, and the Trinity is my favourite hotel of all! The friendly staff and the accommodation make for an enjoyable stay.

Really nice hotel, staff very helpful. Bed very comfy and rooms nice and warm, would recommend it to all.
