Farmleigh House, Phoenix Park

Farmleigh is situated in the north-west corner of the Phoenix Park and is adjacent to the Chapelizod and Castleknock areas of Dublin. It covers an area of 79 acres and contains many beautiful features including the Main House, which is a fine example of Georgian-Victorian architecture, the Sunken Garden, the Walled Garden, the famous Clock Tower and the Lake.

Farmleigh House is also well known for its Benjamin Iveagh Library. All of the major Irish writers are represented in the collection with first or special editions including first editions of Ulysses and Gulliver's Travels. A particular strength of the collection is in fine Irish bindings. The library holds some of the finest examples of Irish bookbinding from the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries. The collection was recently donated to Marsh's Library by the Guinness family. It will continue to be held at Farmleigh and will remain in the care of the Office of Public Works.

Farmleigh provides premier accommodation and facilities to visiting dignitaries. It provides a suitable and secure venue for officially sponsored national and international meetings of importance.

Public access to Farmleigh will be facilitated to the greatest extent possible and, in this regard, public tours are available

Thursday - Sunday (and Bank Holidays), provided the House is available and not in use by the Government. Also a number of community and cultural events are held mainly during the summer months.

Over the past 10 years I spend an average of 190 nights per annum in hotels throughout Europe and the USA, and the Trinity is my favourite hotel of all! The friendly staff and the accommodation make for an enjoyable stay.
